I really enjoy painting with metallics.  With this piece there is subtle and bold use of a variety of metallics which allow the viewer to see changing visuals depending on how the light and the the viewer's eye interact.  For instance in a dimly lit room it would appear that backdrop is merely black - however - a subtle light source striking it at an angle would reveal various shades of metallic earthtones.
